Writing Prompts: Ordinary Object POV

A wiki image.

This is one of my favorite writing prompts and a great way to get the creativity going. Take an ordinary object and write the world from it's point of view. It can be anything from an apple, pencil, cupcake, paperclip, shirt, book, plate, ect. Just pick something and start writing and you might be surprised at what you come up with. It's a lot of fun to do and I find it a wonderful way to get those creative juices flowing.

Here is a short story I completed recently for a writing contest. The exercise was to write a 500 word short story from the point of view of a stethoscope during a doctor's appointment. What would your stethoscope say? Want to be different, then how about writing from the point of view of an otoscope or tongue depressor.

The next time you need some inspiration take your imagination for a spin and see where it takes you. Shake things up by digger deeper into the world of the ordinary and make it extraordinary. Good luck and happy writing!
